A new play by Lauren Marie Powell
A new play by Lauren Marie Powell
In spring of 2017, Along the Way presented a reading series featuring The Condition of Femme. Audiences and artists came together to hear, discuss, and develop the script. This collaborative process resulted in a touching and grounded final product meant to engage a broad audience emotionally and educationally with real, easy to relate to stories.

Following Along the Way’s reading series, The Condition of Femme was selected for Circle Theatre’s 2018 mainstage season. Directed by Along the Way Creative Director Amanda Jane Long and starring playwright Lauren Marie Powell, the world premiere was highly recommended by the Chicago Reader:
“The portrayal of ambiguity and omnipresence of inconspicuous violence against women and femmes is the strength of The Condition of Femme…. Twenty-two years after The Vagina Monologues, the rage and reality of this play shows that women still don’t own their bodies.”
