RECENT COLLABORATION: TO THE MOON

To The Moon is a clear-eyed, unapologetic, fierce and tender portrayal of domestic abuse and its survivors. Knowing that such abuse impacts people from all walks of life, five diverse women collaborated to interview survivors and weave together their narratives - stories of strength, wit, loss, and hope. Led by playwright Beth Kander, these collaborators' efforts yield a tough and touching stage play, which documents and dramatizes tragic realities of domestic abuse in America. The 2018 staged reading was featured in American Theater Company's Chicago Open Residency Experiment (CORE) and was fiscally sponsored by Along the Way. (Artistic collaborators: Allyce Torres, Amanda Jane Long, Arian Thigpen, Sallee Murphy.)

The Condition of Femme

A New Play by Lauren Marie Powell

The Condition of Femme

A New Play by Lauren Marie Powell

"More about culture than rape"

The Condition of Femme follows the learning curve of Reagan, a compassionate young woman working for a sexual assault hotline. Over the course of a year, callers and confidantes share their stories -- some heartfelt, some humorous, some very painful. Leaving her well-meaning naivete behind, Reagan becomes a gentle guide to female-identified persons coping with violence. When a line blurs between advocacy and intimacy, Reagan risks losing herself to the injustice of it all. Based on true stories, The Condition of Femme is a highly relevant new play, engaging broad audiences with realities of rape culture in America. Learn more

A Once in a Lifetime Performance

"It doesn't get MORE REAL than this."

First presented in Fall of 2016, BCC is an experimental production process in which the actors' identities are kept secret from one another and the public until the first performance. Along the way, each actor rehearses privately with the director to develop meaningful performances, fight choreography, and everything they'll need for a vibrant performance.  In this inaugural BCC project, eight Chicago actors met one another onstage, after 10 weeks of mystery, to play the world's greatest love story - for the first time - for a live audience. Theater magic ensued. Learn more
